The Classical Academy of Fine Arts in Groningen draws upon the ancient and rich visual tradition of the Netherlands. In the north of the Netherlands particularly, much of that tradition has been preserved and has been converted into an independent, unsubsidized art school. Its curriculum attracts countless enthusiastic and hard-working students, who receive the classical vocational education, which in post-war subsidized art education paved the way for ‘post-modern’ education. The latter has become, more or less, a conceptually oriented education, within which traditional craftsmanship plays little, or hardly any, role. The Classical Academy is therefore diametrically opposed to the established order.
The Classical Academy of Fine Arts is founded by Tom Hageman, fine artist and entrepreneur. Tom Hageman is also the initiator of TRAC 2018 Leeuwarden.
